What to do in June!

It’s no secret that one of the best times to experience Rochester in all its glory is summertime. With the sun finally peeking out from those all too familiar spring clouds, the city comes alive. One of the best things about Rochester (in all seasons) is that there is always something to do, something to see, and something to experience. From new local businesses, to the annual festivals Rochestarians know and love--you can never be bored here. With June already in our midst, we thought it’d be an exciting time to highlight some local events to check out this month.

1. Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival

Where: Downtown Rochester, Gibbs Street

When: June 24th-July 2nd

This annual festival is the kickstart for the other amazing festivals Rochester is so well-known for. Live music by various artists and groups provide a soundtrack to the city. With headlining events, free shows, and nightly jam sessions there is always some place and time to mellow out to the allure of jazz. A club pass series gets you access to over 221 shows at 13 venues. Or, if you wanna just sit back and enjoy some outdoor entertainment, bring a lawn chair and get ready to soak up some amazing music.

2. ZooBrew

Where: Seneca Park Zoo

When: June 24th at 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

This 21+ event is called “The wildest Happy Hour in town.” Take a stroll through the Seneca Park Zoo after hours, and see a side of the zoo you’ve never seen before! ZooBrew provides its attendees with regional beer and wine choices as well as live music and food to munch on. This adults-only event is a unique way to spend a night out, as well as experience the one-of-a-kind wildlife that call Seneca Park Zoo home.

3. Three Heads Brewery Grand Opening Weekend Spectacular

When: June 16th-June 19th

Where: Three Heads Brewing

Enjoy the much-anticipated opening of Three Heads Brewing (our neighbors!) in the Neighborhood of the Arts for not just one night of fun, but three! Live music, great food, and most importantly all the beer your heart desires--but please remember to drink responsibly people. We love the abundance of small businesses that inhabit Rochester, and to Three Heads Brewery we say welcome. Cheers!

4. Food Truck Rodeo

When: June 29th from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Where: City of Rochester Public Market

What’s better than food? Food on wheels! Head on over the Public Market for some seriously delicious food at the Food Truck Rodeo. And when I say food--I mean almost every type of food imaginable. Poutine, donuts, sushi, meatballs, just to name a few. Get a real feel for the Rochester food truck loyalty, it’ll be hard not to get lost in the hype. Instead of the seven rodeos held last year, there will be nine for even more yummy, fresh, and unique delicacies to try. Try not to become obsessed--we dare you.

5. Hometown Throwdown

Where: Lovin’cup

When: Friday June 10th from 6:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

Who doesn’t love a little friendly competition? At this event hosted by Lovin’cup, fifteen local restaurants have been paired with breweries to create a sample tasted and judged by YOU. Cast your vote for the pair your tastebuds find most appealing. Some of the pairs mentioned include: Marshall Street Bar & Grill teamed up with the Genesee Brewery, Hose 22 paired with Ellicottville Brewing Company, The Revelry side by side with Jack’s Abby Craft Lagers, and many more. Good food, good beer, and live music--you can’t beat it.

Whether you choose to sip beer with the elephants, stuff your face with food from a truck, or treat yourself to some pleasant tunes, all of these events guarantee the same thing: a good time. We encourage you to get out and experience all that Rochester has to offer, before the next blizzard (and with our crazy weather--that could be tomorrow!)
